Our olfactory systems are wonderfully complex, with so many forms of input and links to so many areas of our brains. We have two smell systems, as our left and right nostrils detect smells differently. Our sense of smell has been long tied to our survival. Not only does our olfactory system provide us with warnings about our environment, but it has an important role in communication, social structure, and memory recall. The olfactory system sends messages to the limbic system, a primitive brain structure that governs emotions, memory storage and behaviour.

Aromatherapy allows us to use this incredible system to alter our moods and environments. The pure plant essences and distilled oils used in Africology products are therapeutic in their application. When a beautiful smell is inhaled, it lights up the part of our brains linked to emotion.
